Young would-be Art Buyer acts like one

If you want to get a job, any job, if you are qualified, the next hurdle is showing you can do the job. This is especially true if you have no experience. At my suggestion, a young college Art School graduate and former student in my Business Practices course at SCAD, recently created a blog listing photographers by category, just like an Art Buyer would. She also printed out copies of  sample estimates, complete with comps, that she worked on in my class. She studied up on her usage terms and contract language and began her job search.

When she finally landed a friendly meeting with the head of Art Buying from a major agency, I told her to study up on what projects the Art Buyer had worked on and know them well.

In her meeting, she hit a home run! The H.A.B. was extremely impressed with her blog of young and veteran talent, her estimates and her professionalism. She got called back for a second meeting and we’ll see what happens.
