The $3 Picture

I was recently at lunch with an Art Director for a major Travel Publication. I asked him if he ever used microstock. He said that there were varying degrees of quality, but that there was more and more travel imagery to be found on microstock sites. Then he related this story to me:

The graphic designer called me down to his office to discuss the cover art for our latest travel guide. He showed me a photo he had chosen and would like to license. I looked at the image and I said, “Wow, great image, but you know the budget!” Our budget is $250 for the cover image. I asked the GD what the cost to license the image was and he said, “3,” and I said, “$300? we can’t afford that!” Then he said, “No, $3.”

Then I hugged him and I said, “I LOVE YOU!”
